Oil Sampling Kit
Tribe Engineering supplies a simple kit with which to take oil samples. The kit includes everything you need to safely and cleanly take an oil sample and post it to our lab for analysis. Samples of gearbox oil, fuel, hydraulic oil and coolants can also be taken with this kit.
The kit contains a very easy to follow set of instructions with pictograms that even a novice could follow. Once the sample is taken, all the user needs to do is fill in some details and sample serial number on the online form, put the sample into the provided mailer, affix the prepaid address label and send to our lab. The user will get an emailed response in around a week detailing the findings and maintenance recommendations.
Oil Sample pump
When larger numbers of samples are to be taken, the syringe in the kit can be replaced with a sample pump to take multiple samples without the need to clean the pump. All that is changed between samples is the sample tubing (which can be supplied in pre-cut lengths to suit your application).
Oil Sampling of a modern engine
Taking an oil sample can be done through the dipstick aperture, the sump drain or from a dedicated sample point. The kit we supply is optimised for taking dipstick samples as this provides the easiest solution for most low to medium volume users and can be done at any time without the need to change the oil.
If samples are taken periodically through the life of the engine/gearbox, a view of rates of wear can be taken and oil change intervals tailored to the actual use of the vehicle rather than the OEM’s generic schedule – The OEM often specifies oil changes based on how often they want to charge you for a service, worst case mileage and typical type of use and worst case environmental conditions such as temperature, dust etc. Monitoring oil condition can give you the information you need to be able to confidently increase (and sometimes decrease) the time between oil changes and major overhauls to optimise the life of your engine.
